2025-10-14–Henry County, Alabama, Judson sites

I attended the 175th meeting of the Judson Baptist Association in Abbeville, AL, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The reports were positive and the spirit was congenial. The highlight of the evening was the welcome of Outlet Ministries Christian Life Center Baptist Church into full membership. This African-American congregation was attracted to the Association because of the strong ministry and mission of the Association. While on this same trip to Henry County, Alabama, I was warmly welcomed for worship by the Adoniram Baptist Church and the Judson Baptist Church also named for missionary Adoniram Judson. (TheJudsonLegacyProject.com/Entries/ 1844-Present Adoniram; TheJudsonLegacyProject.com/Entries/1850-Present Judson.) Both congregations sport very nice facilities and tend to adjacent pristine cemeteries which hold the stories of over 175 years of ministry for each congregation. These two churches, plus the Judson Baptist Association, make Henry County, AL, the most populous county in America with Judson institutions.

I additionally discovered two new opportunities for future research. Also in Henry County is an Old Judson Cemetery which is not adjacent to the present Judson church but which has been marked by the Henry County Historical Group. This could mean there are 4 institutions named for Judson in the same county. In nearby Geneva County I visited an Adoniram Baptist Church in Black, AL, which is now closed. I got some good pictures and will fill in the blanks as soon as possible.
