Adoniram Judson Denton

Career Unknown Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada

Several historical records identify Adoniram Judson Denton with the simple “1854-Deceased.” We can find nothing about his life or his death but let’s extrapolate some information from his family and his progeny. His father was Jacob Denton (1809-1908) and his mother was Frances Jane Cornwall (1821-1918). Adoniram was the third of four children and the family lived in Rossway, Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada. The 1881 census lists 69 year old Jacob Denton as a Baptist and an innkeeper. (There are 25 names on this same census page where Jacob and everyone on that page is listed as a Baptist.) The gravestone of Jacob Denton honors him as “deacon” thus a senior lay-leader in a Baptist congregation. [1] This Baptist background infers appreciation for the life and ministry of missionary Adoniram Judson and a good namesake for a son.

Though there is no mention of the life and death of Adoniram Judson Denton, we did discover information on Dr. Vernon Llewellyn Denton (1881-1944) who was a Canadian born in New Brunswick and died in British Columbia. Dr. Denton’s parents are listed as Bella Gates and Adoniram Judson Denton. [2] Calculations reveal that A.J. Denton would have been 27 years old when his son V. L. Denton was born. This seems to work. I wish we know more about this Canadian Judson.
