Three Generations Share the Name WV, IA, TX, MO
The Sevy family was faithful to the name of Adoniram Judson for three generations encompassing 130 years.
Adoniram Judson Sevy (First). 1878-1953. He was born in Look Out (also called Spy Rock), Fayette County, West Virginia, on 5 May 1878. (Using phonetic spelling, one record has him listed as Adamison Judson Sevy, Sr.). In 1880, when he was 2 years old, the family still resided in West Virginia, but successive census records place him in Iowa. In 1910 the census reports that he was living in Woodbury County, IA with 3 daughters: Ollie, 10; Myrtle, 8; Mildred, 6. In 1917-18 he lived in Sioux City, Iowa, and traveled to Des Moines to be married on 4 January 1918 in Polk County, to Lucy Ellen Sevy (1881-1916). Eleven months later, on 13 December 1908, a son was born and named Adoniram Judson Sevy, Jr. The occupation of the first Adoniram Judson Sevy is unknown. He passed away in 1953 at age 75 and was buried in Iowa.

Adoniram Judson Sevy (Second) 1908-1990. He was born in Iowa on 13 December 1908. He married Felicity Lucile Clarkson Sevy who was born in 1910 in Illinois. They had 4 children including Adoniram Judson III, Judith, Edith, and Margaret (Peggy). By 1951 he lived in St. Joseph, Missouri, and was working as an insurance agent. Tidbits from the St. Joseph News-Press include these notes:
+Adoniram Sevy was honored by Monarch Life Insurance Company as a member in the President’s Club for his achievements in 1964 (2/14/65);
+His presence was noted at the Community Theater production of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” which was held at Missouri Western College (6/4/68); and
+He paid a fine of $39 for careless driving (7/30/85).
The second Adoniram Judson Sevy passed away on 28 January 1990 at age 81 in Missouri. He was buried with his family in Sioux City, Iowa.

Adoniram Judson (Jud) Sevy (Third) 1943-2008. This third generation Sevy was born 20 November 1943, in Waco, Texas. This formal obituary published by the Houston Chronicle on August 31, 2008, best tells his story.
ADONIRAM JUDSON SEVY, III (Jud), 64, passed away August 22, 2008, surrounded by his family, Betsey, Ingrid, and Alec. He was preceded in death by parents Felicity Clarkson and A.J. Sevy, II and sister Judith and is survived by sisters Edith Riley and Peggy Black. Born in Waco, TX, Jud grew up in St. Joseph, MO and graduated from Central High. He attended Westminster College where he was a Sigma Chi and graduated with a degree in History from Northwest Missouri State College in 1968. He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. After returning he worked in insurance which took him to Houston where he met and fell in love with Elizabeth Gale. The two married in 1972 at the Emerson Unitarian Church and later welcomed their two children. In 1998, Jud became a kidney donor for his wife. A longtime member of the Bellaire Optimist Club, Sunday School teacher, and Boy Scout Leader, Jud was devoted to his family and community. He was ever gentle, giving, considerate, and loving; leaving all who knew him with memories of a man with a quick smile and a true pride in those he loved. A Memorial Service will be held at Emerson Unitarian Church, 1900 Bering Drive, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008.[1]
